Ioannis "John" Korfas ( Greek Ιωάννης Κόρφας , born August 21, 1962 in Akron , United States ) is a former Greek basketball player.

Career

Ioannis Korfas is a graduate of Pepperdine College in Malibu, California, where he served on the Pepperdine Wolves' university team from 1982 to 1986. In the summer of 1986, Nikolaos Vezirtzis brought Korfas to PAOK BC Thessaloniki , where he stayed for the 9 following years of his career and matured into a legend. With PAOK, Korfas won a championship and the cup, the Cup Winners' Cup in 1991 and the Korać Cup in 1994 . In 1993 he took third place in the Final Four tournament for the European Champion Clubs' Cup . His record at PAOK BC immortalized him in the club's top 5 scorers of all time. In 247 top division games, he threw 3,611 points with an average of 14.6 points in the game. In 1995 Korfas moved with his teammate Evangelos Vourtzoumis to league rivals Panathinaikos Athens , where he won the European Cup in 1996 alongside players like Dominique Wilkins or Panagiotis Giannakis at the second attempt. Korfas became one of the few players who could win all of the European competitions held at that time. With Panathinaikos, he also won the championship and the trophy again, as well as the Intercontinental Cup for the first time . In 1998 Korfas moved to Marousi Athens , where he ended his career after two seasons.
Alongside Fragiskos Alvertis and Angelos Koronios , Korfas is one of only three players who can boast over 600 successful three-point throws in the Greek A1 Ethniki .

National team

Korfas made his debut with the Greek national team in 1988 in a game against the Netherlands in Amsterdam , which Greece won 93-66. With the national team Korfas came on nine missions and scored 68 points (7.6 on average). In addition to the silver medal at the European Championships in 1989, he also took part in the Acropolis tournament once.
