The 1989--90 NBA season was the National Basketball Association's 44th season . As in the previous year, the Detroit Pistons became champions by defeating the Portland Trail Blazers 4-1 in the final.
Season Notes
- The Minnesota Timberwolves and Orlando Magic entered the NBA as the 26th and 27th franchises.
- All teams from Texas reached the playoffs. This only happened again in 2004.
- The all-star game took place in Miami , Florida . The Eastern Conference team won 130-113 against the Western Conference team.
- After 37 years in office, Johnny Most gave up his job as radio announcer for the Boston Celtics . His radio commentary " Havlicek stole the ball !!" in the Eastern Conference Finals in 1965 had become a legend.
- For the ninth time in a row, the Los Angeles Lakers reached the play-offs as the team with the best record in the Western Conference . They did not succeed in doing this again until 2000 .
