Rolando Antonio Blackman (born February 26, 1959 in Panama City , Panama ) is a retired American basketball player . He spent most of his NBA career with the Dallas Mavericks . Blackman played as the shooting guard and was a four-time all-star. From 2001 to 2002, alongside Armin Andres, he was assistant coach to Henrik Dettmann , who was then the national coach of the German men's national team , and was thus involved in winning the bronze medal at the 2002 World Basketball Championship .
Career
college
Blackman, who grew up in Brooklyn , New York , successfully played basketball at Kansas State University . With 1844 points he is the second best scorer of all time for Kansas State. In 1980 he was part of the squad of the American national team, which did not take part in the Olympic Games in Moscow because of the American Olympic boycott . Blackman's shirt number 25 is no longer given in his honor.
NBA
Rolando Blackman was selected in the NBA Draft 1981 in 9th place by the Dallas Mavericks . He played for the Mavericks until 1992 and reached the playoffs six times and four nominations for the NBA All-Star Game . Blackman held with 16,643 points, until March 8, 2008 the franchise record for most points scored, but this was exceeded by Dirk Nowitzki . Blackman spent his last two NBA seasons with the New York Knicks , with whom he reached the 1994 NBA Finals . His career stats amount to 17,623 points, 3,278 rebounds and 2,981 assists. His jersey number 22 has been withdrawn from the Dallas Mavericks.
Europe
In the middle of the 1994/1995 season, Blackman joined the Greek basketball team AEK Athens . He completed his last season at Olimpia Milano , where he contributed over 15 points per game to winning the Italian championship and the cup.
