Charlie Villanueva (born August 24, 1984 in New York City , New York ) is an American - Dominican basketball player .
childhood
Charlie Villanueva grew up as a Latino in Elmhurst , in the New York borough of Queens . His parents are Roberto Villanueva and Doris Mejia. As a child, Villanueva lost all of his body hair ( alopecia universalis) .
Career
High school
He attended Newtown High School , ( New York ), alongside former NBA pro Smush Parker . After a year he moved to the Blair Academy in Blairstown (New Jersey) , where he ran up together with heat forward Luol Deng . After receiving a few national awards, he initially wanted to enroll in the 2003 NBA draft . However, he then preferred to go to college first.
college
Charlie Villanueva then enrolled at the University of Connecticut , where he completed two seasons for the Huskies , averaging 11.2 points and 6.7 rebounds per game , which earned him the election to the Big East All-Rookie Team . Now he finally felt ripe for the NBA , and finally signed up for the 2005 draft .
NBA
Villanueva was drafted in the NBA Draft 2005 in seventh place by the Toronto Raptors , where he also played a season and achieved statistics of 13.0 points and 6.4 rebounds. After his first year he was transferred to the Bucks in exchange for TJ Ford . From 2006 to 2008 he was able to achieve an average of 11.8 points and 5.9 rebounds. The 2008–2009 season has been the most successful of his career so far. Until April 1, 2009 he was able to support his team with 16.5 points and 6.7 rebounds while he was on the court for 26.9 minutes per game .
In June 2009, he signed a five-year deal totaling $ 35 million with the Detroit Pistons . He was supposed to support the Pistons together with the newly signed Ben Gordon as a kind of sixth man and he took part in 78 games in his first season, where he came from the bank 62 times according to his role. Villanueva set his career best in the three-way quota during the season. The Pistons failed to make it into the playoffs in Villanueva's first year.
After his contract in Detroit expired, Villanueva signed a non-guaranteed contract with the Dallas Mavericks in the summer of 2014 . Ultimately, he made it to the season squad. He scored 6.3 points on average for the Mavs and took part in the NBA playoffs for the first time in his career. After two years with the Mavericks, his contract in Dallas ended in the summer of 2016.
