William Henry Parker (born June 1, 1981 in Brooklyn , New York City ) is an American basketball player . He plays with the Guangdong Southern Tigers in the Chinese Basketball Association .
childhood
Parker started playing basketball at an early age. He gained some fame through its games on the well "The Cage" ( Engl. Basketball courts referred to in the West Fourth Street in "cage") Manhattan . He earned nicknames like: NBA Live , Grim Reaper ( English " Grim Reaper ") or "The Aviator" ( English "the aviator").
The nickname Smush was actually his father's nickname. His mother, who died when he was 8 years old, gave him this name.
High school
He later attended Newtown High School in Elmhurst , Queens . Parker became an instant star on the basketball team.
college
1999-2000, his freshman year, attended the College of Southern Idaho , a junior college . In the following sophomore year he moved to Fordham University , New York City . During his time at Fordham University, he won several awards such as: E.g .: Second Team All A-10 and Second Team NABC All-Region. In his last season as a junior , he averaged 16.5 points, 4.4 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 2.3 steals in 35 minutes. In college, Parker mostly played in the shooting guard position, but then switched to the point guard position at the beginning of his professional playing career .
Professional career
In 2002 Parker left university and signed up for the 2002 NBA Draft . He was not drafted, but got a one-year contract offer from the Cleveland Cavaliers , which he accepted. After this season he moved to Greece to Aris Thessaloniki where he played very successfully. In 2004 he came back to the NBA and signed a one-year contract with the Detroit Pistons. After starting the 2005/06 season with the Phoenix Suns, he moved to the Los Angeles Lakers during the season. A great success for him was that he got into the starting five of the Lakers, although no one had expected it. It started against the Denver Nuggets . Parker didn't disappoint his coach Phil Jackson, scoring 20 points in four of his five games. In the 2005-2006 season, Smush Parker started 82 times and scored 11.5 points and 3.7 assists per game. During the last two games of the 2006/07 season and the playoffs, he lost his starting position to rookie Jordan Farmar . On July 26, 2007, he signed a contract with the Miami Heat. His statistics deteriorated dramatically. He only scored 4.8 points per game, which was below average compared to his 11.5 points with the Lakers. On March 10th, 2008 he was released from the Heat (see private information) . On March 12, 2008 Parker signed a contract with the Los Angeles Clippers until the end of the season. Since then he has not been able to build on the performance he brought with the Lakers. He currently plays in the Chinese basketball league with moderate success.
Private
William Henry Parker reportedly hit a woman in early 2008 after an argument over $ 12 parking fees. She parked his car and then asked for this. Parker allegedly injured her left arm, which is why the woman filed a lawsuit. The case has been investigated by the Miami police. The prosecutor was even planning a lawsuit against Parker. Because of these incidents, Smush Parker was briefly given leave of absence from the Miami Heat without pay. On March 10, 2008, he was released from the Heat.
