In 1977 they won the Central American Championships for the first time in front of a home crowd and were allowed to take part in the 1978 World Cup in the Philippines . After you had no win in the preliminary round, you could achieve two more victories in the placement round and took third from last and twelfth place in the championships. Thereafter, there were no more successes. It was not until the mid-1990s that medals were won again at the Central American Championships.
