Alfred "Al" Joel Horford Reynoso (born June 3, 1986 in Puerto Plata , Dominican Republic ) is a Dominican basketball player who is currently under contract with the Philadelphia 76ers in the US professional league NBA . He previously worked for the Boston Celtics and for a long time for the Atlanta Hawks . Horford has been a five-time NBA All-Star in his career so far .
Horford's father Alfredo "Tito" Horford played three seasons in the NBA. He was also the first Dominican to play in the NBA.
NBA career
Atlanta Hawks (2007-2016)
Horford was drafted third in 2007 . He previously played for the Florida Gators at the University of Florida and twice won the NCAA Division I Basketball Championship with them .
Horford was able to achieve an average of 10.1 points and 9.7 rebounds per game in his debut season 2007/08 . For this performance he was appointed to the NBA All-Rookie First Team . Despite his relatively small height for this position of 2.08 m, Horford developed into one of the best center players in the league. In 2010 he had his breakthrough and he was nominated for the NBA All-Star Game . In 2011 another All-Star nomination followed, as well as an appointment to the NBA All Third Team .
Due to an injury to the chest muscle , Horford completed only 11 games in 2011-12. In the following season, however, he showed career highs in 74 games with 17.4 points and 10.2 rebounds. In December 2013, Horford suffered another chest muscle injury after 29 games, which is why he was out the rest of the season. For the 2014/15 season he returned and completed 76 games for the Hawks. With Atlanta he had the best record in the Eastern Conference and reached the conference finals, and Horford was invited to the NBA All-Star Game for the third time. The 2015-16 season was also successful for Horford. He reached the playoffs again with the Hawks, but where they were eliminated in the Conference semi-finals.
Boston Celtics (2016-2019)
In the summer of 2016, Horford joined the Boston Celtics as a free agent . At the Celtics, Horford is an important support for coach Brad Stevens and his team. He was invited to the NBA All-Star Game in 2017 and 2018 and also reached the NBA playoffs with the Celtics in both years.
Philadelphia 76ers (since 2019)
In the summer of 2019, Horford signed a $ 97 million, plus $ 12 million bonus, four-year contract with the Philadelphia 76ers .
