Malik Benjamin "Shake" Milton (born September 26, 1996 in Owasso , Oklahoma ) is an American basketball player who has worked for the Philadelphia 76ers in the National Basketball Association (NBA) and for the development team of the franchise since the 2018/19 season . the Delaware Blue Coats , who play in the NBA G-League . From 2015 to 2018 he played college basketball for Southern Methodist University (SMU). Milton was drawn in the second round of the 2018 NBA draft by the Dallas Mavericks as the 54th pick and then handed over to Philadelphia.

High school career

Milton made a name for himself while he was in high school at Owasso High School in his hometown of Owasso, Oklahoma, where he won the Gatorade Player of the Year for the state of Oklahoma in both the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons got awarded. He averaged 29.7 points and 4.4 assists in his senior season, and was also named Tulsa World Player of the Year and Oklahoma Super 5 Player of the Year .

College career

After high school, Milton enrolled at Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Texas in the summer of 2015 . In his first year he played 30 games for the Mustangs (including 23 as a starter), in which he averaged 10.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.7 assists. For this he was appointed to the AAC All Rookie Team.

In summer 2016 he was a member of the US Select Team on the Goodwill Tour in Croatia.

In the 2016/17 season he started in all 35 games and averaged 13.0 points, 4.5 assists and 1.3 steals per game. This season, as in his third year, he was appointed to the second team All-AAC. In that third year (2017/18 season), Milton played 22 games for the Mustangs averaging 18.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.4 steals per game before a broken right hand ended his season.

2018/19 NBA season

After three years in college, Milton decided to sign up for the NBA draft. He was selected by the Dallas Mavericks in the second round (54th pick) of the 2018 NBA Draft . Immediately afterwards he was given to the Philadelphia 76ers for the rights to picks 56 and 60 ( Ray Spalding and Kostas Antetokounmpo ). On July 26, Milton signed a two-way contract with Philadelphia so that he was also eligible to play for the 76ers' development team, the Delaware Blue Coats ( NBA G-League ). In the first 23 games of the 2018/19 season , Milton was not called into the squad, so he did not make his NBA debut against the Washington Wizards until November 30, 2018 . He scored five points and was able to contribute two assists. Milton came to a total of 20 games this rookie season, all of which he played as a bench player. In an average of 13.4 minutes per game, he was able to achieve 4.4 points, 1.8 rebounds and 0.9 assists. The best value of that season was on March 25, 2019 against Orlando Magic , when he scored 13 points. Through the two-way contract, Milton was used again and again with the Delaware Blue Coats, where he average 24.9 points (fourth-best values ​​that season in the G-League), 5.2 assists and 4.8 rebounds in 27 games hung up per game.

2019/20 NBA season

Milton signed a four-year deal with Philadelphia prior to the start of the 2019-20 season . At the beginning of the season, Milton struggled with injury problems and was only used sporadically. It was only from the 46th day of the match, when Milton came to his 13th appearance of the season, that he was permanently included in the squad and was able to play most of the games in the starting five. On January 30, 2020, he was able to set his interim career high of 27 points in the game against the Atlanta Hawks .
