Centrobasket ( Spanish: Campeonato Centroamericano y del Caribe de Baloncesto (Masculino de Mayores) ) is a biennial basketball competition in the past between selected teams from the national Central American basketball federations including Mexico and the non-Spanish and Portuguese-speaking (former) colonies of Guiana . The competition is now part of the organization of ConCenCaBa , in which the associations of the Central American zone of the continental association FIBA America , founded in 1975, have come together. The Centrobasket was officially held for the first time in 1987 between the men's national teams of the participating countries and integrated into the FIBA competition calendar . Previous championships from 1965 between the participating countries, in which the Venezuelan national team also took part, which now belongs to the South American zone of the continental association and before that also participated in the South American championships, are generally included in the competitions of the Centrobasket. The competition is carried out separately according to gender and for youth and junior teams. The Centrobasket is now used to qualify for the championships of the continental association FIBA America.
