The 1995 Torneo de las Américas 1995 ( English The 1995 Tournament of the Americas ) is the eighth edition of the American basketball championship and took place from 15 to 27 August 1995 in the Argentine provincial capitals of San Miguel de Tucumán and Neuquén , with the intermediate and Final round matches were played exclusively at the latter location. The tournament was about qualifying for the basketball tournament at the 1996 Olympic Games . In retrospect, the tournament was included in the order of the American championships and counted as a continental championship for national teams of men of the continental federation FIBA ​​America . Of the ten participating teams, the three medal winners qualified directly for the Olympic Games. Olympic defending champion United States was already automatically qualified as world champion for the Olympic Games and did not take part in the tournament.

At the tournament, a preliminary round was held in two groups of five teams each as a round-robin tournament. The two worst-placed teams in the preliminary round were then eliminated from the tournament, while the other teams, taking their preliminary round results with them, played an intermediate round as a continuation of the round-robin tournament against the best four teams in the other preliminary round group.
