The American Basketball Championship 2005 (officially: Campeonato FIBA Americas 2005 ( English The FIBA Americas Championship 2005 )) is the 12th edition of this tournament and took place from August 24 to September 4, 2005 in the Dominican capital, Santo Domingo . In addition to the continental championship for the men's national teams of the continental federation FIBA America, the tournament also included qualifying for the 2006 World Basketball Championship . Of the ten participating teams, the four semi-finalists qualified directly for the world championships. As runners-up Argentina as Olympic champions were already directly qualified for the world championships, direct qualification for the fifth-placed team was also possible if the Argentine team took part in the semi-finals. The games were played exclusively in the Palacio Virgilio Travieso Soto , where the basketball competitions of the 2003 Pan American Games had already taken place two years earlier .
