William Mark Price (born February 15, 1964 in Bartlesville , Oklahoma ) is a retired American basketball player . He played in the position of point guard . He played twelve years in the NBA , from 1986 to 1998. He spent most of his career with the Cleveland Cavaliers . He then played one season each with the Washington Bullets , the Golden State Warriors and the Orlando Magic .

Player career

After going to Georgia Tech University , Price was drafted 25th in 1986 by the Dallas Mavericks . These traded Price that same night to the Cleveland Cavaliers , which should help the Cavaliers to become a top team in the Eastern Conference .

During his career, Price was known as one of the NBA's finest shooters . He ended his career with a free throw rate of 90.7%, which means that he still leads the NBA in this statistic. In addition, Price had a three-way rate of 40% over the course of his entire career. In the 1988-1989 season he was along with Larry Bird and Reggie Miller the third player who had a three-point rate of 40%, a field throw rate of 50% and a free throw rate of 90%. Price was also a good passer and leads the Cavaliers in assists to this day (4206). Price has won the Long Distance Shootout twice in his career and was nominated four times for the All-Star Team , setting a record in the 1993 All-Star Game with six converted three-pointers in one half. After the 1992-1993 season , he was also appointed to the All-NBA First Team . Additionally, Price led the Cavaliers in steals until December 9, 2008 when LeBron James overtook him.

Mark Price also played for the USA national team during his career . With the national team he won the gold medal at the 1994 World Cup .

He was plagued by injuries later in his career, which was a big reason why he was traded to the Washington Bullets in the 1995-1996 season . He played a season in Washington before he was traded to the Golden State Warriors and a little later to the Orlando Magic . Price ended his career with the Magic. Shortly afterwards, his shirt number, 25, was withdrawn by the Cavaliers.

Coaching career

In March 2006, Price was named the first coach of the South Dragons, a team in the National Basketball League in Australia. Price had little success at the Dragons and could not win a game in the entire season.

He is currently the Charlotte Bobcats ' litter coach , having performed the previous season with the Memphis Grizzlies and Atlanta Hawks . Price also trains other NBA players in partnership with Suwanee Sports Academy.
