William Henri Audie Howard (born October 25, 1993 in Montbrison ) is a French basketball player who is under contract with ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne .

career

His father Skip, originally from the United States , played as a professional basketball player in France in the late 1970s and 1980s, where he met his future wife Sylvaine, who also played basketball.

From 2009 to 2011 William Howard was trained at the French national performance center INSEP , he spent the following playing year in his father's home country and attended the New Hope Academy in the state of Maryland . After his return he moved to the first division club BCM Gravelines , but played mainly in the youth. In the following years he gained playing experience in the French second division, with Hyères-Toulon he became second division champion in 2016 and was then on the field for the team in the country's top division. His achievements there earned him a contract with Limoges CSP in 2017 , where, as in his previous positions, he attracted attention as an accurate distance shooter. In the summer of 2019 he took part in a training camp for the NBA team Utah Jazz and shortly afterwards signed a contract with the Jazz. He took part in three preparation games, but was removed from Utah's roster in October 2019 before the start of the season.

He joined the Salt Lake City Stars , for whom he scored 13.1 points per encounter in 15 games in the NBA G League , before he was signed by the Houston Rockets  with a "two-way contract" for the NBA and the Texan support team, Rio Grande Valley Vipers , was equipped. He played two games for Houston and 36 for Rio Grande. In mid-July 2020 he was signed by the French first division club ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne .

National team

After playing for France's national teams in the U16, U18 and U20 age groups, he played his first international match for the men's national team in spring 2018.
