Hyattsville is a city ( City ), with just under 20,000 residents in Prince George's County in the State of Maryland , USA . It is located on the northeastern edge of Washington and about 50 km southwest of Baltimore .
history
The place was first named Hyattsville by Christopher Clark Hyatt in 1859 to enable mail delivery through his business. The name was adopted when the city was founded on April 7, 1886. In addition to the post office as a representative of Colonial Revival architecture , a number of buildings in Victorian style were built .
From 1905 to 1922 the brothers Howard, Gary and Frank Carter and Charles Herreshoff manufactured automobiles here under the company names Washington Motor Car Company , Carter Brothers Motor Company , Harvard Motor Car Company and Carter Motor Car Company .

There is a connection to the Washington Metro , whose Green Line and Yellow Line serve the city. In addition, US Highway 1 is divided into a section that leads into Washington and a section that bypasses Washington.
