BC Lions
It wasn't until two years later that he got the chance to play professional football again when he signed with the BC Lions in the Canadian Football League (CFL) in May 2007 . He played on the defensive end position from the start and performed well immediately. After an impressive debut with seven tackles and three sacks, he was named Defensive Player of the Week on matchday one after beating the Toronto Argonauts 24:22 . This season he had the most sacks in the CFL (16) and also blocked the only field goal . He also made 72 tackles and was the first CFL player to be named both Rookie of the Year and CFL's Most Outstanding Defensive Player Award .

Miami Dolphins
After the 2008 season, 17 NFL teams showed an interest in Wake. On May 5, 2012, he signed a four-year contract extension that could bring him up to 49 million US dollars including bonus payments. In 2012 he moved from the position as outside linebacker to the defensive end, which gave him what was probably his best season in the NFL. He collected 53 tackles and 15 sacks, making it, after Randy Starks , only the second Dolphins player to be nominated for two different positions for the Pro Bowl. Also in 2014 he was called up to the Pro Bowl with 8.5 sacks. In 2015, he was only used in seven games, as he tore his Achilles tendon on matchday eight against the New England Patriots , causing him to be out for the rest of the season.
