Hervey Do
Hervey Gilbert Make (born October 14, 1916 in Washington, DC , † November 29, 1994 in Annapolis , Maryland ) was an American politician . Between 1965 and 1969 he represented the state of Maryland in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Hervey Make attended Hyattsville High School and then studied at the University of Maryland . He then graduated from Southeastern University in Washington by 1941 , where he studied law, among other things. During the Second World War he served in the US Army between 1941 and 1946 . After the war he practiced as a lawyer. He also worked in the banking industry. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1954 and 1962 he was a member of the Maryland House of Representatives . From 1947 to 1951 he was the assistant prosecutor in Prince George's County . He also served as an attorney for the Cheverly and Hyattsville parishes from 1949 to 1958 .
In the 1964 congressional election , making was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington in the fifth constituency of Maryland, where he succeeded Richard Lankford on January 3, 1965 . After a re-election, he was able to complete two terms in Congress until January 3, 1969 . These were shaped by the events of the Vietnam War and the civil rights movement . In 1968 he was defeated by Republican Lawrence Hogan .
In 1970, Hervey Make unsuccessful sought his party's nomination for the congressional elections. After that, he no longer appeared politically. He died on November 29, 1994 in Annapolis and was buried in Upper Marlboro .
