William McMahon McKaig

William McMahon McKaig (born July 29, 1845 in Cumberland , Maryland , † June 6, 1907 ibid) was an American politician .

William McKaig studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1868. In 1873 he moved to the Colorado Territory , but later returned to Maryland. In 1876 he was appointed Cumberland District Attorney. McKaig was a member of the Maryland House of Representatives in 1877 and was a Senator in the Maryland Senate in 1887 . In 1890 he was mayor of Cumberland. McKaig was elected a Democrat in Congress and represented there from March 4, 1891 to March 3, 1895, the sixth constituency of the state of Maryland in the US House of Representatives .

In 1894 he did not run for a new candidacy and returned to his previous profession after leaving politics. McKaig died in Cumberland in 1907 and was buried in Rose Hill Cemetery .
