George Alexander Pearre

George Alexander Pearre (born July 16, 1860 in Cumberland , Maryland , †  September 19, 1923 there ) was an American politician . Between 1899 and 1911 he represented the state of Maryland in the US House of Representatives .

Career

George Pearre first attended private schools and then the Allegany County Academy and James College near Hagerstown . He then graduated from Princeton College . By 1880 he studied at West Virginia University . After a subsequent law degree at the University of Maryland in Baltimore and his admission to the bar in 1882, he began to work in this profession from 1887 in Cumberland. Between 1887 and 1892 Pearre was also a member of the Maryland National Guard, where he made it to lieutenant colonel. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . He was a member of the Maryland Senate from 1890 to 1892 . From 1895 to 1899 he was a district attorney in Allegany County .

In the congressional election of 1898 , Pearre was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the sixth constituency of Maryland , where he succeeded John McDonald on March 4, 1899 . After five re-elections, he was able to complete six legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1911 . In 1910 he renounced another candidacy.

After his time in the US House of Representatives, George Pearre practiced as a lawyer again. He died on September 19, 1923 in his hometown of Cumberland, where he was also buried.
