Robert N. Martin

Robert Nicols Martin (born January 14, 1798 in Cambridge , Dorchester County , Maryland , †  July 20, 1870 in Saratoga Springs , New York ) was an American politician . Between 1825 and 1827 he represented the state of Maryland in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Robert Martin attended the public schools in his home country. After studying law and being admitted to the bar, he worked in this profession between 1819 and 1827. At the same time he was involved in politics. In the 1820s he was a supporter of President John Quincy Adams . He became a member of the short-lived National Republican Party . In the congressional election of 1824 , Martin was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the eighth constituency of Maryland , where he succeeded John S. Spence on March 4, 1825 . Until March 3, 1827 he was able to complete a legislative period in Congress .

After his time in the US House of Representatives, Martin practiced as a lawyer in Baltimore . Between 1845 and 1851 he was the presiding judge in the Maryland Western Judicial District. He then continued his legal practice in Baltimore. From 1859 to 1867 he was a judge on the Superior Court of Baltimore . He then taught international law at the University of Maryland until his death . Robin Martin died in Saratoga Springs on July 20, 1870 and was buried in Cambridge.
