Thomas Bayly (politician)

Thomas Bayly (born September 13, 1775 in Quantico , Wicomico County , Province of Maryland , †  September 18, 1829 ibid) was an American politician . Between 1817 and 1823 he represented the state of Maryland in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Thomas Bayly was born on the Wellington estate near Quantico. He enjoyed private schooling and then studied at Princeton College until 1797 . After completing a law degree and admission to the bar, he began working in this profession in Maryland. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Federalist Party . Bayly served in the Maryland House of Representatives from 1804 to 1814 .

In the congressional election of 1816 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the eighth constituency of Maryland , where he succeeded Charles Goldsborough on March 4, 1817 . After two re-elections, he was able to complete three legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1823 . After his time in the US House of Representatives, Thomas Bayly practiced as a lawyer again. He died on September 18, 1829 on the Wellington estate where he was buried.
