Alexander McKim

Alexander McKim (born January 10, 1748 in Brandywine , New Castle County , Delaware Colony , †  January 18, 1832 in Baltimore , Maryland ) was an American politician . Between 1809 and 1815 he represented the state of Maryland in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Alexander McKim received an academic education and then moved to Baltimore, where he embarked on a political career. In 1778 he was a member of the Maryland House of Representatives . During the Revolutionary War he served in independent units from Maryland. In the late 1790s he joined the Democratic Republican Party founded by Thomas Jefferson . Between 1806 and 1810 he was a member of the Maryland Senate .

In the congressional elections of 1808 McKim was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fifth constituency of Maryland , where he succeeded William McCreery on March 4, 1809 . After two re-elections, he was able to complete three legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1815 . These were shaped by the events of the British-American War . After his tenure in the US House of Representatives, McKim worked in commerce. He later became the presiding judge at the Guardianship Court for Orphans in Baltimore County . He died in Baltimore on January 18, 1832. His nephew Isaac McKim (1775-1838) was also a member of Congress.
