Career

Charles Goldsborough studied at the University of Pennsylvania until 1787 . After completing a law degree, he was admitted to the bar in 1790. Between 1791 and 1795 he was a member of the Maryland Senate . In 1797 he also served in the Maryland House of Representatives . From 1805 to 1817 he represented his state in the US House of Representatives.

In 1818 he was elected the new governor of the Maryland General Assembly . Goldsborough served only one term between January 8, 1819 and December 20 of the same year, which was uneventful. After the end of his tenure, he retired to his estate near Cambridge. He died there in December 1834. Charles Goldsborough was married twice and had a total of 17 children. He was the great-grandfather of Thomas Alan Goldsborough , who was a member of the US House of Representatives from 1921 to 1931. Another great-grandson was Winder Laird Henry , who was also a member of Congress from 1894 to 1895 .
