William Craik
William Craik (born October 31, 1761 in Port Tobacco Village , Charles County , Province of Maryland , † before 1814 in Frederick , Maryland ) was an American politician . Between 1796 and 1801 he represented the state of Maryland in the US House of Representatives .
Career
William Craik first attended the Delameve School in Frederick County . After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer, he began to work in Port Tobacco Village and Leonardtown in this profession. He later moved to Baltimore . Between 1793 and 1796 Craik was the presiding judge in Maryland's Fifth Judicial District. Politically, he joined the Federalist Party founded by Alexander Hamilton .
After the resignation of Member of Parliament Jeremiah Crabb , Craik was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives, which was still in Philadelphia at the time in Philadelphia , where he took up his new mandate on December 5, 1796. After two re-elections, he could remain in Congress until March 3, 1801 . He saw the move to the new federal capital Washington, DC in 1800
After his tenure in the US House of Representatives, William Craik resumed his previous position as presiding judge in the Fifth Judicial District in 1801 and 1802. He spent his old age in Frederick and died before 1814. Exact details of the date of his death are not known.
