Uriah Forrest (born 1746 in Leonardtown , Saint Mary's County , Province of Maryland , †  July 6, 1805 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician . In 1793 and 1794 he represented the state of Maryland in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Uriah Forrest received only a limited education. During the Revolutionary War he served in a unit from Maryland in the Continental Army . He rose to major. He was wounded several times and even lost a leg. After the war he worked in the tobacco trade. He also embarked on a political career. Between 1781 and 1790 he sat several times in the Maryland House of Representatives . In 1787 he was a member of the Continental Congress . Politically, he was close to the federal government under President George Washington ( Pro-Administration Group ).

In the congressional elections of 1792 Forrest was elected in the third constituency of Maryland in the US House of Representatives, which was then still in Philadelphia , where he succeeded John Francis Mercer on March 4, 1793 . He held this mandate until his resignation on November 8, 1794. After serving in the US House of Representatives, Uriah Forrest became a major general in the Maryland Militia in 1795. From 1800 to 1805 he was employed by the District Court Administration in the new District of Columbia . He died on July 6, 1805 in the federal capital Washington.
