Benjamin Edwards

Benjamin Edwards (born August 12, 1753 in Stafford County , Colony of Virginia , †  November 13, 1829 in Elkton , Kentucky ) was an American politician . In 1795 he represented the state of Maryland in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Benjamin Edwards attended public schools in his home country and then worked in agriculture and commerce in Montgomery County , Maryland. At the same time he embarked on a political career. He sat in the Maryland House of Representatives for several years . In 1788, he was a delegate to the meeting at which the State of Maryland ratified the United States Constitution. He was close to the federal government under President George Washington ( Pro-Administration Group ).

After the resignation of MP Uriah Forrest , Edwards was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives, which was still in Philadelphia at the time in Philadelphia , where he took up his new mandate on January 2, 1795. Until March 3 of the same year he could only end the current legislative period in Congress . After his tenure in the US House of Representatives, Edwards moved to Todd County , Kentucky. He died in Elkton on November 13, 1829. His son Ninian (1775-1833) made a political career in the state of Illinois as governor and US senator .
