Isidor Rayner

Isidor Rayner (born on 11. April 1850 in Baltimore , Maryland , died on 25. November 1912 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician of the Democratic Party . From 1905 to 1912 he was a member of the Senate . He was from 1887 to 1889 and from 1891 to 1895 Representative of the 4th electoral district of the state of Maryland.

Life

Rayner was born into a Jewish-German family in Baltimore. In his family he was brought up according to the Jewish faith . He attended private schools in his hometown. He later studied at the universities of Maryland and Virginia law . In 1871 he successfully completed his studies.

In the same year he married Frances Jane Bevan.

Rayner was elected to the Maryland House of Representatives in 1878 , where he held a seat until 1884. In 1885 he became a member of the Maryland Senate for a year . The following year he was elected to the United States House of Representatives (50th Congress). In 1888 he failed in his candidacy for the 51st Congress, but was able to move back into the 52nd and 53rd Congress. In 1894 he did not make himself available as a candidate. In 1899 he became Attorney General for the State of Maryland. He held this office for four years before being elected to the US Senate for the Democratic Party in 1905 and re-elected in 1911. During his tenure he was Chairman of the Indian Committee.

Rayner died in Washington, DC in 1912 as a US Senator. He was buried in the Rock Creek Cemetery.
