John Peter Spyros Sarbanes (born May 22, 1962 in Baltimore , Maryland ) is an American politician . Since 2007 he has represented the state of Maryland in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Sarbanes, the son of US Senator Paul Sarbanes , attended the Gilman School until 1980 and then studied at Princeton University until 1984 . After completing a law degree at Harvard University and being admitted to the bar in 1988, he began working for a large law firm in Baltimore. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party .

In the congressional elections of 2006, Sarbanes was in the third electoral district of Maryland in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC chosen, where he succeeded the in on 3 January 2007 Senate exchanged Ben Cardin took. After five re-elections so far in 2008, 2010, 1012, 2014 and 2016, he can continue to exercise his office today. His new legislative term runs until January 3, 2019 with the option of a further candidacy in 2018. In the 114th Congress (2015-2017) he was only a member of the Committee on Energy and Trade and a subcommittee. In addition, he was now a member of the non-partisan International Conservation Caucus , which campaigns for environmental protection.

John Sarbanes is married and has three children. The family lives in Towson .
