George Baer Junior
George Baer Jr. (* 1763 in Frederick , Province of Maryland ; † April 3, 1834 ibid) was an American politician . Between 1797 and 1801 and again from 1815 to 1817 he represented the state of Maryland in the US House of Representatives .
Career
George Baer attended public schools in his home country and then worked in commerce. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a supporter of the federal government under President George Washington . In the late 1790s he joined the Federalist Party founded by Alexander Hamilton . In 1794 he was a member of the Maryland House of Representatives . In the congressional elections of 1796 , Baer was elected in the fourth constituency of his state in the US House of Representatives, which was still in Philadelphia at the time , where he succeeded Thomas Sprigg on March 4, 1797 . After a re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1801 . In 1800, both the federal government and Congress moved to the new federal capital, Washington, DC
Between 1809 and 1809 George Baer was again a member of Parliament in Maryland; in 1813 he served as a judge on the Guardianship Court for Orphans in Frederick County . In the elections of 1814 , Baer was again elected to the US House of Representatives in the fourth district of Maryland, where he replaced Samuel Ringgold on March 4, 1815 . Until March 3, 1817, he could spend another legislative period in Congress. After his final resignation from this body, he returned to work in retail. In 1820 he was mayor of the city of Frederick. He died there on April 3, 1834.
