Robert Franklin Bratton

Robert Franklin Bratton (born May 13, 1845 in Barren Creek Springs , Wicomico County , Maryland , †  May 10, 1894 in Princess Anne , Maryland) was an American politician . In 1893 and 1894 he represented the state of Maryland in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Robert Bratton attended Washington College in Chestertown until 1864 . He then worked as a Deputy Register in the Somerset County Administration . In 1867 he was admitted to the bar; It is not known whether he actually practiced this profession. At that time he began a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . In 1865 he was a member of a convention that nominated delegates for a nationwide peace conference in Philadelphia . Bratton has also been a delegate to various local and state conferences. In 1869 he was a member of the Maryland House of Representatives ; in 1873, 1879, 1887 and 1890 he was a member of the State Senate .

In the congressional elections of 1892 Bratton was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the first constituency of Maryland , where he succeeded John Brewer Brown on March 4, 1893 . He could not finish the legislative period in Congress that ran until March 3, 1895 , as he died on May 10, 1894. His mandate fell to Winder Laird Henry after a special election .
