Cornelius Leary

Cornelius Lawrence Ludlow Leary (born October 22, 1813 in Baltimore , Maryland , †  March 21, 1893 ibid) was an American politician . Between 1861 and 1863 he represented the state of Maryland in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Cornelius Leary attended public schools in his home country as well as St. Mary's College in Baltimore, where he graduated in 1833. Between 1833 and 1837 he lived in Louisville ( Kentucky ); then he returned to Baltimore. Politically, he then joined the Whig Party , which broke up in the 1850s. He served in the Maryland House of Representatives in 1838 and 1839 . After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1840, he began to work in Baltimore in this profession.

In the congressional election of 1860 Leary was elected as a Unionist in the third constituency of Maryland in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded James Morrison Harris on March 4, 1861 . By March 3, 1863, he was able to complete a legislative period in Congress that was shaped by the events of the civil war . After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, Leary practiced again as a lawyer. He died in Baltimore on March 21, 1893.
