Samuel Hambleton

Samuel Hambleton (born January 8, 1812 in Talbot County , Maryland , †  December 9, 1886 in Easton , Maryland) was an American politician . Between 1869 and 1873 he represented the state of Maryland in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Samuel Hambleton enjoyed a private school education. After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1833, he began to work in Easton in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . He served in the Maryland House of Representatives in 1834 and 1835 ; between 1836 and 1844 he served as the prosecutor in Talbot County. Hambleton was a member of the Maryland Senate from 1844 to 1850 . He was President of the Chesapeake and Ohio Company in 1853 and 1854 . He was also a member of the Maryland House of Representatives again in 1853.

In the congressional election of 1868 , Hambleton was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the first constituency of his state , where he succeeded Hiram McCullough on March 4, 1869 . After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1873 . In 1870 the 15th Amendment to the Constitution was ratified. After his tenure in the US House of Representatives ended, Hambleton withdrew from politics. He died on December 9, 1886 in Easton, where he was also buried.
