George Konig
George Konig (born January 26, 1856 in North Point , Baltimore County , Maryland , † May 31, 1913 in Baltimore , Maryland) was an American politician . Between 1911 and 1913 he represented the state of Maryland in the US House of Representatives .
Career
George Koning came to Baltimore with his parents while he was still a child. He went to almost no schools, but taught himself the necessary knowledge. He then worked in shipbuilding for ten years. In the meantime, he headed the union responsible for this branch. He was also the union's treasurer for twelve years. Between 1894 and 1913 he was the managing director of the Baltimore Pulverizing Co. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . From 1903 to 1911 he was a member of the Baltimore City Council.
In the 1910 congressional election , Konig was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the third constituency of Maryland , where he succeeded John Kronmiller on March 4, 1911 . After being re-elected, he could remain in Congress until his death on May 31, 1913 . He was then buried in Baltimore. Since 1884 George Konig was married to Margaret Schroeder, with whom he had five children of their own. The couple also adopted two other daughters.
