James Wray Williams

James Wray Williams (born October 8, 1792 in Maryland , †  December 2, 1842 in Deer Creek , Maryland) was an American politician . In 1841 and 1842 he represented the state of Maryland in the US House of Representatives .

Career

James Williams attended preparatory schools and later embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . He sat in the Maryland House of Representatives and became its Speaker in 1839, succeeding Charles Sterrett Ridgely .

In the congressional election of 1840 Williams was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the third constituency of his state , where he succeeded John Tolley Hood Worthington on March 4, 1841 . He was able to exercise this mandate until his death on December 2, 1842. This period was marked by tension between President John Tyler and the Whigs . In addition, a possible annexation of the Republic of Texas , which has been independent of Mexico since 1836, was already being discussed. James Williams was buried in the family cemetery at Prieshford Farm .
