Henry Stockbridge

Henry Stockbridge Jr. (born September 18, 1856 in Baltimore , Maryland , †  March 22, 1924 there ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1889 and 1891 he represented the state of Maryland in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Henry Stockbridge attended both public and private schools and then the Williston Academy in Easthampton ( Massachusetts ). He then continued his education until 1877 at Amherst College in Massachusetts. After studying law at the University of Maryland and being admitted to the bar in 1878, he began working in this profession in Baltimore. He also worked for the publishing house of the Baltimore Herald newspaper. Since 1882 he has served as Examiner in Equity at the Supreme Court of Baltimore.

Politically, Stockbridge was a member of the Republican Party . In the congressional elections of 1888 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fourth constituency of Maryland , where he succeeded Isidor Rayner on March 4, 1889 . Since he refused to run again in 1890, he was only able to complete one legislative period in Congress until March 4, 1891 .

Between 1891 and 1893 Stockbridge was the immigration officer for the Port of Baltimore. From 1896 to 1911 he was a judge at the Supreme Court of Baltimore and from 1911 at the Maryland Court of Appeals . He was also a regent on the governing body of the University of Maryland between 1907 and 1920 . He died on March 22, 1924 in Baltimore, where he was buried in Loudon Park Cemetery .
