William J. O'Brien

William James O'Brien (born May 28, 1836 in Baltimore , Maryland , †  November 13, 1905 there ) was an American politician . Between 1873 and 1877 he represented the state of Maryland in the US House of Representatives .

Career

William O'Brien attended the public schools in his home country as well as Old St. Mary's College in Baltimore. After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1858, he began to work in Baltimore in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . In the congressional election of 1872 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the third constituency of Maryland , where he succeeded Thomas Swann on March 4, 1873 . After a re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1877 . In 1876 he renounced another candidacy.

After his time in the US House of Representatives, William O'Brien practiced as a lawyer again. From 1901 he was a judge at a Guardianship Court for Orphans in Baltimore. He died on November 13, 1905 in his hometown of Baltimore, where he was also buried.
