Thomas Culbreth

Thomas Culbreth (born April 13, 1786 in Kent County , Delaware , †  April 16, 1843 in Caroline County , Maryland ) was an American politician . Between 1817 and 1821 he represented the state of Maryland in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Thomas Culbreth attended both public and private schools. In 1806 he moved to Denton , Maryland, where he worked as a shop clerk. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Republican Party . He served in the Maryland House of Representatives in 1812 and 1813 . He was then a cashier at the State Bank in Denton in 1813 . In the congressional election of 1816 , Culbreth was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the seventh constituency of Maryland , where he succeeded Robert Wright on March 4, 1817 . After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1821 . In 1820 he renounced another candidacy.

After his tenure in the US House of Representatives, Thomas Culbreth served as a judge on the Guardianship Court for Orphans in Caroline County in 1822 . Between 1825 and 1838 he was an administrator on the Maryland Governing Council. He was living in Annapolis then . He then returned to Denton, where he worked in commerce. He died on April 16, 1843 at Orrell Farm in Caroline County.
