Robert Edmund Bauman (born April 4, 1937 in Bryn Mawr , Pennsylvania ) is an American politician . Between 1973 and 1981 he represented the state of Maryland in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Robert Bauman moved to Easton , Maryland in his youth , where he attended public schools until 1953. He then graduated from the Capitol Page School in Washington, DC He then studied international political relations until 1959 at Georgetown University . After studying law at the same university and being admitted to the bar in 1964, he began to work in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1964 and 1980 he took part in the Republican National Conventions . From 1970 to 1973 he was a member of the National Hospital Council ofMinistry of Health . Bauman was also a member of the Maryland Senate from 1971 to 1973 .

After the suicide of MP William Oswald Mills , Bauman was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, where he took up his new mandate on August 21, 1973 when the by-election was due for the first Maryland seat. After three re-elections, he could remain in Congress until January 3, 1981 . During this time the end of the Vietnam War and the Watergate Affair fell . Robert Bauman was considered a Conservative Congressman. He sought re-election in 1980. In October 1980 he was accused of homosexual acts with a minor. Bauman blamed the matter on alcohol problems and continued his election campaign, which was then unsuccessful. Following a successful alcohol withdrawal, charges of his offense were also dropped. The matter, however, cost him his political career. In 1982 he attempted a return to Congress, but withdrew his candidacy in the primary.

Today Robert Bauman works as a legal advisor to a banking group. He has also written several books, including one on tax law. He was married and has four children.
