Jeremiah Crabb

Jeremiah Crabb (born 1760 in Frederick County , Province of Maryland , †  February 19, 1800 in Derwood , Maryland ) was an American politician . In 1795 and 1796 he represented the state of Maryland in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Jeremiah Crabb served as a lieutenant and later as a first lieutenant in the Continental Army during the War of Independence . On April 1, 1778, he had to quit military service for health reasons. In doing so, he had to pay tribute to the hardships of the previous harsh winter at Valley Forge . Crabb later became a large landowner in Montgomery County . He was a militia general who helped put down the Whiskey Rebellion in Pennsylvania in 1794 . Politically, he joined the Federalist Party founded by Alexander Hamilton .

In the congressional elections of 1794 Crabb was elected in the third constituency of Maryland in the US House of Representatives, which was then still in Philadelphia , where he succeeded Benjamin Edwards on March 4, 1795 . He was able to exercise this mandate until his resignation on June 1, 1796. He then returned to his estate near Rockville . He died on February 19, 1800 in Derwood, where he was also buried.
