George Gale
George Gale (born June 3, 1756 in Somerset County , Province of Maryland , † January 2, 1815 in Cecil County , Maryland ) was an American politician . Between 1789 and 1791 he represented the state of Maryland in the US House of Representatives .
Career
George Gale attended public schools in his home country. During the War of Independence he served in the Continental Army . He was also a member of the convention that ratified the United States Constitution for the state of Maryland. Politically, he was a supporter of the future President George Washington ( pro-administration faction ). In the congressional elections of 1789 he was elected in the fifth constituency of Maryland in the US House of Representatives, which was still in New York at that time , where he took up his new mandate on March 4, 1789. Until March 3, 1791 he was able to complete a legislative period in the first Congress .
After his tenure in the US House of Representatives, George Gale was appointed by President Washington to be the head of the Authority for the Control of Alcohol Production in Maryland ( Supervisor of Distilled Liquors ). He died on January 2, 1815 on the Brookland Estate in Cecil County, where he was also buried. His son Levin (1784-1834) was also a congressman for Maryland.
