Anthony Kennedy (* 21st December 1810 in Baltimore , Maryland , † 31 July 1892 in Annapolis , Maryland) was an American politician who for the Know Nothing the Senate of the United States belonged.

Anthony Kennedy was the younger brother of the future Secretary of the Navy, John P. Kennedy . His parents sent him to a private school in Virginia in 1821 ; later he studied law and worked in agriculture.

In Virginia he began to get involved in politics. He was a member of the State House of Delegates between 1839 and 1843. He was also a member of the Court of Justice of Jefferson County (now part of West Virginia ) for ten years .

In 1844, Kennedy, who at that time still belonged to the Whigs , applied unsuccessfully for a seat in the US House of Representatives . He turned down President Millard Fillmore's offer to become US consul in Havana in 1850. He returned to Maryland the following year and was elected to the House of Delegates there in 1856 .

After joining the Know-Nothing Party, also known as the American Party , Anthony Kennedy was elected to the US Senate in 1856, to which he was a member from 1857 to 1863. In 1867 he was still a delegate to the Maryland Constitutional Convention before he retired to his farm near Ellicott City and died in Annapolis in 1892.
