John Marshall Butler

John Marshall Butler (* 21st July 1897 in Baltimore , Maryland ; †  14. March 1978 in Rocky Mount , North Carolina ) was an American politician of the Republican Party , of the State of Maryland in the US Senate represented.

Career

After attending public school, John Butler joined the US Army in 1917 , for which he fought in World War I. In 1919 he left the army.

After returning from the war, he began studying at Johns Hopkins University that same year . In 1926 he graduated from the University of Maryland Law School ( Baltimore location ) and was admitted to the bar, whereupon he began to practice as a lawyer in his hometown.

In 1947 Butler was accepted as a member of the Baltimore Public Service Commission ( City Service Commission ), to which he was a member until 1949. The following year he was elected to the United States Senate. After re-election in 1956, he represented Maryland in Washington for a total of twelve years before he decided not to run again in 1962 and returned to his home in Baltimore after retiring from the Senate on January 2, 1963.
