Austin James Rivers (born August 1, 1992 in Santa Monica , California ) is an American basketball player who is under contract with the Houston Rockets in the National Basketball Association (NBA) . He is the third child of Doc Rivers , himself a former NBA player and now the coach of the Los Angeles Clippers .

college

After a very successful high school years - Rivers acquired four Varsity Letters - he attended Duke University , for which he only played for a year. On March 26, 2012, he announced his intention to register for the 2012 NBA draft .

NBA career

Rivers was finally selected 10th in the first round by the New Orleans Hornets , who had previously selected Anthony Davis first . Like his father, he decided to wear the number 25 shirt. During his two and a half year season in New Orleans, Rivers scored 6.9 points and 2.3 assists.

On January 12, 2015, he was initially transferred to the Boston Celtics , followed three days later by another move to the Los Angeles Clippers , where his father Doc Rivers is head coach. It was the first time in NBA history that father and son had played for the same team. At the beginning, Rivers often came off the bench with the Clippers. In the 2017/18 season, Rivers established himself as a starter and achieved his best career values ​​with 15.1 points and 4.0 assists per game.

During the summer break of 2018, Rivers was swapped from the Clippers to the Washington Wizards . In return, the Polish center Marcin Gortat moved to Los Angeles. In December 2018, Rivers and Kelly Oubre were handed over to the Phoenix Suns for Trevor Ariza , who immediately gave up his services. The day before Christmas Eve he signed a guaranteed contract with the Houston Rockets until the end of the season. All earnings will be deducted from his Suns salary.
