NBA
Orlando Magic (2007-2010)
After moving to the Orlando Magic, Gortat was initially used for some games at Anaheim Arsenal , a " farm team " of Magic in the NBA Development League (D-League). On December 2, 2007, he was finally firmly taken into the roster by the Magic. However, he could not play in the rotation and was used in only 6 games (6.8 minutes on average).
The first time he could draw attention on December 15, 2008 when he started for the injured Dwight Howard and scored 16 points and 13 rebounds in 28 minutes . With the prospect of more playing time and a regular seat, Gortat signed a contract with the Dallas Mavericks in July 2009 . However, since he was a Restricted Free Agent , the Magic pulled up with the offer, whereupon Gortat had to stay with the Magic.
Phoenix Suns (2010 to 2013)
In December 2010 he was transferred from the Orlando Magic to the Phoenix Suns together with Vince Carter and Mickaël Piétrus . In return, Jason Richardson , Hedo Türkoğlu and Earl Clark moved to Orlando. Initially only obliged as a bonus for Carter, Gortat played his way into the starting line-up of the Suns with his physical style. He got 24 double doubles in points and rebounds and he increased his statistical values from 4.0 points and 4.7 rebounds per game before the trade with the Magic to 13.0 points and 9.3 rebounds with the Suns.
In the 2011/12 season, which was shortened to 66 games by the lockout , Gortat started in all games and set career highs in points, rebounds , blocks and steals . He also led the team's internal statistics in points and rebounds. In the 2012/13 season Gortat achieved a career record of seven blocks in the 117: 110 victory over the Charlotte Bobcats . However, he injured his knee in February and was out for the remaining 20 games.

Although the game was won, the Wizards were defeated by the Pacers 2-4 later in the series and were eliminated from the playoffs.
