Gerald Green (born January 26, 1986 in Houston , Texas ) is an American basketball player who was last under contract with the Houston Rockets in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Green is known for his " slam dunks " and his enormous jumping ability. He is also a good three point shooter .

Childhood and high school

Gerald Green was born in Houston, Texas. For high school he went to the Gulf Shores Academy in Houston. As a senior he scored an average of 33 points, 12  rebounds , 7  assists and 3  blocks per game. He became All-American in the McDonald's All-American Game and won the Slam Dunk Contest.

NBA career

Green was selected 18th in the 2005 NBA Draft by the Boston Celtics . In his debut season, Green initially got little play; in 32 games he scored 5.2 points and 1.2 rebounds in an average of 11.8 minutes. Even in his rookie year, his style made himself known as "high flyer". In the final of the 2007 Slam Dunk Contest , Green managed a windmill dunk while jumping over a table, for which he received full 50 points and defeated last year's winner Nate Robinson .

In July 2007 he was transferred to the Minnesota Timberwolves with four other players in exchange for Kevin Garnett . He then moved to the Houston Rockets , which released him from his contract shortly afterwards. In July 2008, Green signed a one-year contract with the Dallas Mavericks . In the 2008 NBA All-Star Game , he failed to defend his slam dunk success from the previous year against Dwight Howard .

For the next two years he played in Russia and China. In 2011 he got a contract with the Los Angeles Lakers , but was released after only eight days and then played with their farm team in the D-League , the Los Angeles D-Fenders , until the New Jersey Nets signed him. At the Nets, Green was able to draw attention to himself with good statistics and received a contract offer from the Indiana Pacers for the 2012/13 season , which he accepted.

In summer 2013 he moved to the Phoenix Suns . In the 2013/14 season , Green caused a sensation due to good statistics. He averaged 15.8 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists, making the season his most successful to date. Therefore, he was considered a contender for the NBA Most Improved Player Award , but his teammate Goran Dragic won. He scored the best of his career on March 6, 2014 in a game against the Oklahoma City Thunder with 41 points.

From the summer of 2015, Green played for a year with the Miami Heat . In the summer of 2016, he switched back to his first NBA club, the Boston Celtics, where he played until the end of the 2016/17 season. From December 2017 to February 2020, Green was under contract with the Houston Rockets.
