Union City is an American city in Alameda County in the state of California . It is east of the San Francisco Bay . The area is 51 square kilometers and has a total of 69,000 inhabitants.
The city is connected to the north and south via Interstate Highway 880 , where you can drive to Oakland in about half an hour and San Francisco beyond . There is also a railway connection, and numerous buses run within the city.
Union City was created in 1959 by merging the three towns of Alvarado, Decoto and New Haven.
