Jerome Keith James (born November 17, 1975 in Tampa , Florida ) is a retired American basketball player who was active in the NBA for most of his professional career .

Career

During his college days he played for Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University . In the 1998 NBA draft , he was selected in the second round by the Sacramento Kings . In autumn 1998 he took part in a European tour by the Harlem Globetrotters . He missed the entire 1999/00 season because of knee surgery.

In the 2000/01 season he played briefly for two European clubs, KK Budućnost Podgorica and ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne . From 2001 to 2005 he played in the NBA for the Seattle SuperSonics , with whom he reached the play-offs in 2005 .

He then moved within the league as a free agent to the New York Knicks , where he received a five-year contract worth 30 million US dollars. There he could not build on his previous achievements; in the 2007/2008 and 2008/09 seasons he only played two games.

In 2012 and 2015 he had two short engagements with Caciques de Humacao and Atenienses de Manatí from the Puerto Rican basketball league .
