Malik Rose (born November 23, 1974 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) is a retired American basketball player . He currently works as a sports journalist, including games for the New York Knicks .
youth
Rose attended Overbrook High School in Philadelphia , where basketball legend Wilt Chamberlain already spent his school days. He then played at Drexel University for the local basketball team, the Drexel Dragons. Over his four year college career, he averaged 16 points and 12 rebounds per game. He ended his senior season at college with the All-American honor after strong performances in the NCAA tournament of the NCAA Division I Basketball Championship , where he led the Dragons to a surprise victory against the University of Memphis , among other things .
NBA career
In the 1996 NBA draft , he was selected in the second round in 44th place by the Charlotte Hornets . He was, besides Michael Anderson, only the second basketball player from the Drexel Dragons ranks to make the leap into the NBA. His time in Charlotte only lasted for one season, however, before he was traded to the San Antonio Spurs , with whom he won the NBA championship in 1999 and 2003. On February 24, 2005, Rose, after eight years as a crowd favorite in San Antonio , was shipped to the New York Knicks in a player swap including two first-round picks against Nazr Mohammed and Jamison Brewer . After four mediocre years with the Knicks, he was traded for Chris Wilcox to the Oklahoma City Thunder , who released him on December 22, 2009 after only 20 games.
