Emnambithi-Ladysmith ( English Emnambithi-Ladysmith Local Municipality ) was a municipality in the South African district of Uthukela in the province of KwaZulu-Natal . The administrative seat of the parish was in the town of Ladysmith . MV Madlala was the last mayor. The ANC last provided the majority in the local council.

The community name is the isiZulu term for everything that is tasteful ( nambitheka ). King Shaka (1785-1828) regularly visited the various clans in his kingdom. During one of these visits, he drank water from the Klip River and found it sweet. In 2011 the community had 237,437 inhabitants. It covered an area of ​​2965 square kilometers.

The municipality bordered the province of Free State and the districts of Amajuba and Umzinyathi in the north . To the north of Emnambithi-Ladysmith was the Indaka community , with which it was merged in 2016 to form the Alfred Duma community, and to the south was the later community of Inkosi Langalibalele and Okhahlamba .

The main places in the parish were Ladysmith, Colenso, and Van Reenen .

economy

Ladysmith was the economic center of the parish, both for its farms and as a shopping town. The banking sector was well developed and a manufacturing industry had settled. Agriculture had good conditions. Corn and vegetables were grown and cattle was raised. The national road N11 ran through the municipality, the N3 was only a short distance away. The growing tourism industry benefited from transit traffic through the municipality.
