Okhahlamba ( English Okhahlamba Local Municipality ) is a municipality in the South African district of Uthukela in the province of KwaZulu-Natal . The administrative seat of the parish is Bergville . DT Sibeko is the mayor. The African National Congress (ANC) provides the majority in the local council.

The community name is derived from the isiZulu term for 'place in the mountains' and refers to the Drakensberg . In 2011 the community had 132,068 inhabitants. It covers an area of ​​3971 square kilometers.

Okhahlamba is the westernmost municipality of KwaZulu-Natal and borders Lesotho and the province of Free State . To the northeast of Okhahlamba lies Alfred Duma and to the east and south of Inkosi Langalibalele . In the south, the community also borders the former District Management Area Giant’s Castle Game Reserve . The N3 runs through the north-western part of the municipality. A short stretch of the N11 is also in Okhahlamba.

economy

Tourism is very important to Okhahlamba. Bergville is considered the gateway to the Drakensberg. The many leisure and hotel facilities and attractions also attract visitors from Europe and North America.

Agriculture is another economic mainstay of the community. Corn is the main product. Other important products are peanuts and milk. Soybean cultivation and chicken farming are also gaining importance in Okhahlamba's economy.
