The Stanley Black & Decker Corporation is an American company based in New Britain in the State of Connecticut .

The Stanley Works company (including the " Stanley knives ") was created in 1920 through a merger of Stanley's Bolt Manufactory (founded in 1843 by Frederick Stanley) and Stanley Rule and Level Company (founded in 1857 by cousin Henry Stanley).

In 1910, S. Duncan Black and Alonzo G. Decker founded a small workshop in Baltimore that became The Black & Decker Manufacturing Company .

In November 2009 Stanley Works announced the takeover of Black & Decker for 4.5 billion dollars (around 3 billion euros at the time). The merger of the two companies was completed in March 2010. The resulting new company was named Stanley Black & Decker, Inc.

The Stanley Black & Decker Germany GmbH is a manufacturer of power tools and accessories with headquarters in Idstein in Rheingau-Taunus-Kreis in Hesse . It was founded in 1958 under the name Black & Decker GmbH and employs around 280 people in Germany.

At the Idstein location, marketing and sales for all brands in Germany are coordinated and Eastern European countries, Switzerland and Austria are looked after. Idstein is also home to the global hammer drill research and development department , which has won several design awards, including the design award of the Federal Republic of Germany , the red dot award and the IF design award .

history

The German branch, Black & Decker GmbH , was founded in 1958 in Düsseldorf. In 1964 Black & Decker launched a 2-speed drill for do-it-yourselfers on the German market. The plant in Idstein was established in 1967; Black & Decker produced its first power tools in Germany. In 1969, a 2-speed hammer drill was the first DIY tool developed in Germany to hit the market. In 1970 the company entered the gardening equipment market.

In 1987 Black & Decker took over the distribution of professional power tools from the ELU brand in Germany, which was integrated into the DeWalt brand four years later . Idstein became the seat of the global research and development department for rotary hammers.

In 2007 Black & Decker entered the automotive accessories market in Germany.

The Black & Decker brand covers the product areas of power tools for do-it-yourselfers, gardening tools, small household appliances and automotive products.

The power tools product area serves the DIY market in Germany. It includes mains and battery-operated tools, work tables and small devices as well as accessories.

The garden tools product area includes cordless and cordless tools for hobby gardeners. The household appliances product area includes cordless handheld vacuum cleaners.

The automotive product area includes products for cars, motorcycles, homes and workshops such as jump starters and battery chargers, voltage converters and headlights.

The target group of the DeWalt brand are users in industry and trade. It is primarily sold through specialist dealers. The range includes cordless, mains and stationary machines as well as work clothing, safety shoes and protective goggles.

Open-ended spanners , screwdrivers and pliers are sold under the Facom brand .

USAG is an Italian tool manufacturer founded in Gemonio in 1926 and taken over by Facom in 1991.

Sargent and Greenleaf

Sargent and Greenleaf (S&G) is a Rochester, New York company founded by James Sargent and Halbert Greenleaf in 1856 , relocated to Nicholasville, Kentucky in 1975 and acquired by Stanley in 2005. S&G specializes in locking technology. The product range includes padlocks and locking mechanisms for safes and chests. From 1948 onwards, this also included development orders from the US government. A combination lock with a single rotary knob, as it is known from safes, is offered as a padlock. Until 1970 only mechanical products were offered. Noteworthy constructions were the magnetic combination lock and time locks , which protected the time or delay against exhaustive attempts .

Piranha

Piranha is the brand for universal accessories and includes accessory segments such as drilling, sawing, screwing and grinding. The main target group are do-it-yourselfers. Piranha drills are mainly produced by the Bavarian Bohrerwerke (BBW) . BBW is a specialist supplier of drills that produces its entire range itself. The target group are do-it-yourselfers as well as craftsmen and users from industry.
